It is my privilege to welcome you to The Excel Academy, one of the best performing academies in the City. Our ethos is one of ‘Pride and Respect’ and what makes us distinctive is the sense of belonging that The Excel Academy engenders in the students, staff, parents and friends of the academy. Our students confirm that they are very proud to be part of our community and parents comment that the Academy is now the ‘school of choice’.

We have established a reputation for high standards and make no excuses for those expectations but we also recognise that care for each individual child is paramount. The relationships between home and the Academy are fundamental to success. By working in partnership, we can ensure that every child enjoys their time at Excel, makes outstanding progress and leaves here as ambitious, resilient, confident and reflective young adults, ready to make a valued contribution to society.

We teach a broad and rich curriculum, ensuring all students are on a pathway to achieve and we are extremely proud of our students’ academic achievements. In particular our results in GCSE Mathematics and English are regularly the best locally and our creative arts and vocational subjects continue to achieve excellent results too. Whilst exam achievement is of paramount importance, it is not our sole focus. We ‘expect excellence’ in all areas of student personal development. Our students have a long tradition of success in the sporting arena with a huge number of our young athletes winning Town, City and County honours each year. Our talented young actors, singers and dancers produce outstanding performances at our prestigious Achievement Awards evening, our Sports Awards evening and our summer productions.

I believe that The Excel Academy is a special place. The support that we receive being part of the Alpha Academies Trust is excellent and I look forward to working with the students, teachers, governors and families to continue our relentless drive on raising standards and being a great school.
