October marks the beginning of Black History Month, in addition to what we study in our curriculums and SMSC discussions throughout the Academic year, during this month we will be furthering our understanding and learn more about Black History. So far students have had an assembly on Black History Month where they have been introduced to figures such as Barack Obama and Mae C. Jemison.
Over the coming weeks students will look at what further reading they can do to further their knowledge and be introduced to other significant individuals and their work. A recommended reading list resource shared online as a starting point can be found below:

SMSC in the Academy this half term

As we mentioned earlier this month, our students in every year group discuss tasks related to SMSC in their form times; SMSC relates to Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural learning.
Students are continuing with their discussions on the run up to half term around European Day of Languages, Black History Month, World Mental Health Day, Resilience by discussing boxer, Anthony Joshua's press conference where he refers to his loss as a 'blessed opportunity' and the sense of community we share as an Academy in wearing our uniforms and year team badges.
Please ask your children about these topics in the coming weeks and further their interest in these areas. We will share with you what else is coming up in SMSC next half term with you soon!
